Four men linked to Northwest Indiana received pardons from Trump for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot
Dale Huttle, 73, from Crown Point, had been serving a 2.5-year sentence but is now set to be released. He had two violent confrontations with police during the riot, using a flagpole to strike officers. His actions were described as unremorseful, as he previously claimed he was acting as a patriot.
Huttle’s nephew, Matthew, also faced consequences for his actions, serving six months for trespassing. Meanwhile, Kash Lee Kelly from Hammond was charged for entering restricted areas and was sentenced to 60 days in prison.
Another local, Gregory Mijares, was preparing for trial on serious charges related to the riot. He was seen fighting with officers and encouraging others during the chaos.
Democratic lawmakers criticized the pardons, arguing they undermine the seriousness of the January 6 events, which injured over 100 police officers and caused significant damage. The fallout from that day continues to be a contentious issue in U.S. politics.
