Trump aims to strengthen ties with China by planning a visit early in his presidency
Washington: So, Trump just told his advisors he’s thinking about visiting China after he takes office. He wants to smooth things over with Xi Jinping, the Chinese president. This info came from a report by the Wall Street Journal.
He’s looking to make this trip within his first 100 days as president. It’s a big deal since he and Xi have been chatting about meeting up. One idea is for Trump to invite Xi to the U.S. instead.
They had a phone call recently, their first since Trump won the election. They talked about trade, fentanyl, TikTok, and other important stuff. Trump shared on Truth Social that the call went really well for both countries.
He mentioned they’re aiming to tackle issues together and make the world a safer place. This trip could help fix their rocky relationship, especially after Trump’s past threats of tariffs on China.
During his campaign, Trump suggested a universal tariff on imports and even hinted at hefty tariffs for countries like China if they mess with the U.S. dollar. He’s been pretty vocal about wanting to impose tariffs on imports from China, Mexico, and Canada right from day one.
He also invited Xi to his inauguration, but it looks like Xi won’t be attending. However, China’s ambassador and other officials will be there, which is pretty standard for these events.
