Trump’s team is considering ways to keep TikTok operational amid legal challenges

Last week, the Supreme Court heard arguments about a law that could force TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or face a ban. The Justices seemed ready to back the law, which is all about national security.
Waltz said that if the Court rules in favor of the law, Trump believes TikTok is a valuable platform for many Americans. He pointed out that it has helped Trump’s campaign reach out to voters. Waltz also mentioned that Trump is focused on protecting user data and hinted at some potential deals in the works.
On the same day, Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for attorney general, avoided answering whether she would support a TikTok ban during a Senate hearing. It’s interesting because Trump had previously tried to ban TikTok due to security worries but has since changed his tune. He even joined TikTok during his 2024 campaign to connect with younger voters, especially with content that’s aimed at going viral. He’s been vocal about wanting to “save TikTok” and credits it for boosting his appeal among younger audiences.
