Orlando Commissioner Regina Hill’s felony trial has been postponed to May after a judge’s ruling on Tuesday

During a hearing, both the prosecutors and Hill’s defense lawyer told Judge Michael Kraynick that they need more time for depositions. They agreed that the trial, which was supposed to happen this month, just isn’t doable.
The judge set a pre-trial hearing for April 29, and they’re looking at a possible trial date in May. But, honestly, it could get pushed back even more. Hill wasn’t even in the courtroom for this quick hearing.
She’s facing some serious stuff—six felony charges. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating claims that she exploited an elderly woman, taking control of her finances with a fake power of attorney and draining over $100,000 from her savings. Hill says she was just trying to help and has pleaded not guilty.
Last year, Governor Ron DeSantis suspended her after the indictment. If she’s found innocent or the charges get dropped before her term ends this year, she could get her seat back. For now, Shan Rose is filling in as the interim commissioner.
