New York: So, Sean Duffy, who’s up for the Transportation Secretary gig, just had his confirmation hearing. He’s all about keeping an eye on Boeing’s safety and making sure Tesla gets investigated without any interference.

He mentioned that he wants to boost confidence in Boeing and hire more air traffic controllers. Plus, he’s keen on setting federal rules for self-driving cars instead of leaving it to the states, which is something Tesla has been pushing for.

When asked about the ongoing investigations into Tesla, Duffy said he wouldn’t step in. He wants the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to do its job without any political pressure.

Duffy, who’s a big Trump supporter, is stepping into this role at a time when the U.S. is really trying to keep up with countries like China in the electric car race. He emphasized that without clear rules, we’re falling behind.

He also pointed out that the Transportation Department is huge, with 55,000 employees and a budget in the tens of billions. His decisions could really affect Tesla and SpaceX, especially since they have a lot of federal contracts.

During the hearing, Sen. Ted Cruz even brought up some fines against SpaceX, calling them excessive. Duffy promised to review those. If he gets confirmed, he’ll take over from Pete Buttigieg, who was the first openly gay Cabinet member.

Duffy has a colorful background, having been a co-host on Fox Business and even a former lumberjack athlete. He’s got nine kids and met his wife on an MTV show. Quite the story, right?
