Whitsett: A family was having a great time in the snow when tragedy struck. Their little boy, Ayden Sasser, died in a sledding accident that no one saw coming.

On Saturday, while playing outside, Ayden’s sled went into a nearby pond, and he got stuck under the ice. The local sheriff’s office shared the heartbreaking details.

The frantic 911 calls captured the chaos. A woman was pleading for help, saying the ice was thin and people were trying to reach him. She mentioned that two people jumped in to save him.

They managed to pull him out, but it was too late. Ayden was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, he didn’t make it. Authorities are still waiting for the medical examiner to determine the official cause of death.

First responders and others who helped were also checked out at the hospital but were released afterward. The community is rallying around Ayden’s family during this tough time.

His mother, Angel Nicole Sasser, has set up a fundraiser on Facebook to help her family cope with this unimaginable loss. She expressed her heartbreak online, saying she doesn’t know how to move forward without her baby.
