A crash on Route 495 in Littleton left one person critically injured, causing major traffic delays.

Around 4:30 p.m., a car swerved into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle, according to Massachusetts State Police. The driver who swerved got life-threatening injuries and had to be air-lifted to a hospital.
The other driver had minor injuries, thankfully. All lanes were shut down for the Med Flight and for police to investigate the scene.
MassDOT warned drivers that both northbound and southbound lanes were closed just after 5:15 p.m. A traffic camera showed Route 495 looking like a parking lot.
It wasn’t until about 5:50 p.m. that two lanes on Route 495 North reopened, but the third lane and the southbound side stayed closed for a while longer.
Commuters heading south had to take detours to exits 80 and 83, which backed up traffic for about 10 miles.
By 7:25 p.m., state police wrapped up their investigation and cleanup, finally reopening all lanes.
This is still a developing story, so keep an eye out for updates as we learn more.
