Washington: So, it looks like TikTok’s U.S. operations could be worth a whopping $50 billion if ByteDance decides to sell. Big names like Elon Musk might be in the running to buy it.

There’s a bit of a cloud hanging over TikTok, though. The U.S. Supreme Court might uphold a law that could ban the app if it doesn’t comply by a certain deadline. ByteDance hasn’t confirmed any sale plans yet, but rumors are swirling.

Experts say if ByteDance goes through with a sale, they could be looking at offers between $40 billion and $50 billion. This estimate comes from a research analyst who compared TikTok’s user base and revenue to other apps.

Right now, TikTok has around 115 million monthly users in the U.S., which is pretty impressive, but still behind Instagram. It’s ahead of Snapchat and Pinterest, though, so it’s holding its own.

Interestingly, the estimated value has dropped from over $60 billion earlier this year. This is mainly due to the current political climate and some shifts in the market.

Analysts also pointed out that finding a buyer who can handle the regulatory scrutiny might be tough. It’s not just about having the cash; they need to navigate a lot of red tape.

There’s a group of investors, including Kevin O’Leary, who are interested in buying TikTok’s U.S. assets. They’ve said they’d pay up to $20 billion, but without the algorithms that make TikTok tick.

O’Leary thinks their bid would face less regulatory hassle compared to Musk’s potential offer. He’s a fan of Musk but doubts the regulators would let that deal go through.

As of now, TikTok and the other parties involved haven’t commented on the situation.
