Yumna Jawad discusses the impact of a potential TikTok ban on her business and the importance of diversifying income streams.
Yumna started her journey in 2013, sharing her cooking experiences on Instagram. She quickly gained a following and began earning from sponsored posts. However, a scary moment came when her Instagram account was deactivated for no clear reason. Thankfully, she got it back, but it taught her a valuable lesson about not putting all her eggs in one basket.
As her social media presence grew, she eventually left her marketing job when her influencer income surpassed her previous salary. She created a website to ensure her audience could always find her content, regardless of social media changes. Now, she has multiple income streams, with a significant portion coming from her website and other platforms.
Despite her diversification, Yumna anticipates a drop in her income if TikTok is banned. Most of her sponsored content is sold as a package deal across platforms, so losing TikTok could mean a 20-25% reduction in earnings. However, she remains optimistic, as her website and Instagram still attract a large audience.
Yumna believes that while social media platforms may come and go, her skills are adaptable. She’s disappointed about the potential TikTok ban but feels confident about her business’s future.
