Thursday Morning What’s Up: East Bay FBI Probe at San Leandro Councilmember’s Home

San Leandro: The FBI showed up at Councilmember Bryan Azevedo’s house on Wednesday with a search warrant. This might connect to last year’s raid on former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao’s place. Azevedo is reportedly linked to the Duong family, who are part of a big corruption investigation that hasn’t led to any charges yet.

Meanwhile, there was a heated debate at the Oakland Police Commission meeting about the police’s pursuit policy. Citizens and business owners think it should be relaxed to help reduce crime. Even Governor Gavin Newsom is pushing for changes to the current rules, which only allow pursuits for violent crime.

In other news, the Santa Cruz City Council plans to make a final call in April on whether to rebuild the part of the Municipal Wharf that collapsed.

Also, a group of burglars hit two gas stations in North Oakland on Monday, using sledgehammers and crowbars to break in just minutes apart.

And on a lighter note, rival high school basketball teams St. Ignatius and Sacred Heart faced off in their annual doubleheader at the Chase Center, with St. Ignatius taking home wins for both boys and girls teams.
