Manchester: The conditions inside Strangeways prison are shocking. Blood-splattered walls, rat infestations, and broken furniture paint a grim picture. New images show just how bad it is.

A watchdog has raised alarms about organized crime using drones to smuggle drugs and weapons into the prison. Chief Inspector Charlie Taylor says it’s a serious threat to national security.

In his recent report, he described Strangeways as having a thriving illicit economy. Basic security measures are failing, and prisoners are even burning holes in windows to get deliveries. Taylor previously called it the most violent prison in the UK, and it seems things have only gotten worse.

The inspection found inmates facing catastrophic drug levels and violence, with a significant decline since the last check in 2021. Organized crime is clearly undermining life inside the prison.

Pia Sinha from the Prison Reform Trust expressed concern over the infiltration of criminal organizations. She noted that this leads to increased violence and debt, affecting not just the prison but the community outside as well.
