A Texas team is on the ground in California, providing support to those affected by devastating wildfires that have caused widespread destruction.
Los Angeles: Over the weekend, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent resources to help out in L.A. after wildfires wreaked havoc, killing 24 people and destroying around 12,000 properties. More than 180,000 folks had to evacuate.
As the fires rage on, the need for help is growing. On Sunday, four members from Texans on Mission made their way to the area to lend a hand.
John Hall from Texans on Mission mentioned that recovery will take a long time in Southern California. Their team is figuring out what displaced families need and will report back soon.
They’re ready to provide essentials like mobile kitchens, showers, and laundry facilities. They know people have lost everything, even their cars, and they want to help however they can.
Hall shared that they’re looking into how to help people get around, keep appointments, and find available resources. Even small gestures like gift cards or meals can make a difference.
He got a real sense of the crisis when he heard a story from the team. They were at a church gathering with about 450 people, and when the pastor asked if anyone knew someone who lost their home, every hand went up.
Another story he shared was about a man who lost his home and both cars. He has a place to stay and some clothes, but he’s struggling to figure out how to get to work.
This non-profit has previously helped with wildfires in the Panhandle and various hurricanes. Texans on Mission is laying the groundwork for a long-term recovery in L.A.
“God has blessed us, and we seek to bless others,” Hall said.
