Los Angeles: The wildfires are causing chaos, and North Texans are stepping up to help out. Texans on Mission is sending teams to California to support those affected.
On Wednesday, volunteers loaded trucks with supplies in East Dallas. They gathered for a prayer before hitting the road for a two-day trip, bringing shower units and humanitarian aid.
John Hall, a spokesperson for the group, shared their plans to partner with local churches. They’ll offer childcare and laundry services to help families in need. Plus, there will be chaplains available to provide support and connect people with resources.
Earlier this week, an assessment team went to Los Angeles to see where help is most needed. Texans on Mission aims to work with local churches to provide long-term support.
Hall mentioned that the recovery from these wildfires will take years. Many victims are facing tough times, especially those who lost their insurance. They want to be there for those who need it most.
One special service they offer is a team that helps find sentimental items in the ashes, like heirlooms and medals. This team could start working in about a month once people can return home.
Texans on Mission is also active in other areas, like North Carolina, helping with hurricane recovery. They’re gearing up to cook meals for a cold-weather shelter in Dallas this weekend.
