Los Angeles: A soldier was spotted next to a Tesla Cybertruck donated to the National Guard during wildfires in the Pacific Palisades area.

This week, Tesla started offering discounts on new Cybertrucks. You can save up to $1,600 on new models, depending on the configuration. Demo versions can be discounted by about $2,600.

Production of these unique trucks has slowed down at Tesla’s Austin factory recently. Deliveries began in 2023, but the Cybertruck’s price has jumped from the expected $40,000 to nearly $80,000.

Wall Street had high hopes for the Cybertruck as a growth driver for Tesla. It even outsold the Ford Lightning F-150 last year, becoming the fifth best-selling EV in the U.S. But issues like high prices and recalls have slowed its momentum.

In fact, Tesla had to recall the Cybertruck multiple times this year due to defective parts. Despite a record demand for EVs globally, Tesla’s deliveries dipped slightly in 2024, losing market share to new competitors.

Overall, EV sales in the U.S. hit about 1.3 million in 2024, a 7.3% increase from the previous year. However, Tesla’s sales dropped by around 37,000 vehicles.

The Model Y and Model 3 remain the top-selling EVs, but even they saw a decline in sales. Last year, Tesla sold roughly 38,965 Cybertrucks.

Recently, Musk apologized to California customers for delivery delays, explaining that the trucks are being used to provide supplies and internet service to wildfire-affected areas. He assured them that new deliveries would resume soon.
