A recent survey shows that many Americans prioritize food over the Super Bowl game itself
The survey, which included 2,000 adults over 21, found that only 48% are invested in the game itself. A surprising one in four people said they’re more excited about the food than the actual football. Plus, 54% believe that the food spread can totally make or break the whole experience.
When it comes to what’s on the menu, buffalo wings are a must-have for 49% of respondents, followed by barbecue at 37% and seven-layer dip at 36%. It seems like six out of ten people will be hosting or going to a game day party, and if they’re hosting, over half plan their menu at least a month ahead.
Interestingly, food beats out commercials and halftime shows in terms of excitement. Sweet and savory snacks are also popular, with nachos, cookies, and potato chips making the cut.
In the spicy category, wings reign supreme again, with 50% of people picking them as their top choice. Other favorites include jalapeño poppers and chili. Overall, the perfect game day plate includes barbecue, wings, seven-layer dip, and brownies.
But it’s not all fun and games. Many people experience heartburn and indigestion from their favorite snacks. Spicy foods like buffalo wings and barbecue are often the culprits. A third of those surveyed hope their host has antacids on hand, and about 44% would still indulge in these foods despite knowing the risks.
Interestingly, some admit they get heartburn from their team’s poor performance or from having to run to the bathroom during crucial moments. It’s clear that while tasty snacks are essential, they can come with a price during the big game.
