The Suns have traded for center Nick Richards, adding depth as they aim for a playoff spot this season

Along with Richards, the Suns snagged a 2026 second-round pick and a 2031 third-rounder. In return, the Hornets received a 2025 second-round pick. Not a bad deal for both sides!
Richards, standing tall at 7 feet, has been a solid contributor for the Hornets this season, averaging 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in about 21 minutes per game. He’ll be joining a Suns team that’s currently sitting at 19-20, just outside the playoff picture in 11th place in the Western Conference.
Interestingly, back in September, before the Knicks made their move for Karl-Anthony Towns, Richards was on their radar as a potential target. The Knicks have been struggling with depth in the big man department since Isaiah Hartenstein left for a big deal with the Thunder.
With Towns dealing with a thumb sprain and bone chip, and Mitchell Robinson still recovering from ankle surgery, the Knicks have been in a bit of a bind. But there’s some good news: Coach Tom Thibodeau mentioned that Robinson is expected to practice in January.
In a recent overtime win against the 76ers, Jericho Sims and Precious Achiuwa shared the center spot, combining for 18 points and 13 rebounds. However, Sims is reportedly on the trading block ahead of the February 6 deadline as the team looks to bolster its frontcourt.
