Fans are buzzing about a hidden gem from The Stone Roses that often gets overlooked
The track in question doesn’t get the same love as classics like “I Am the Resurrection” or “She Bangs the Drums,” but it’s definitely a favorite among die-hard fans. The band, led by Ian Brown, only released two albums: their self-titled debut in 1989 and the follow-up, “Second Coming,” in 1994.
After the band split up, things got a bit messy. Drummer Reni left just before a planned tour, and while they reunited for some shows from 2011 to 2017, they only dropped two singles. Fans have been digging deep into their catalog, and one song is really standing out as underrated.
In a Reddit group dedicated to The Stone Roses, one fan asked which song people thought was the most underrated. They mentioned “Good Times,” calling it an “absolutely brilliant track” that doesn’t get enough attention. Other fans chimed in, suggesting tracks from “Second Coming” and reminiscing about how different they sounded compared to the hits.
One fan mentioned “Love Spreads” and “Begging You,” but there was some debate about whether “Love Spreads” is actually underrated. Another fan pointed out that many were disappointed with “Second Coming” when it first came out, but now it feels more like a part of their overall work.
“Mersey Paradise” also came up as a hidden gem. One fan thought it was too short but still a great song, while another praised its production quality, saying it really showcases each member’s talent, especially Reni’s drumming.
Even though the band reunited and released a couple of singles, they never put out a new album. Guitarist John Squire explained that recording a new album would have been too tough, given the challenges they faced with their earlier work. He mentioned that their last tour felt like a proper ending, and they weren’t looking to do more.
Since then, Squire has teamed up with Liam Gallagher for a new album, while Ian Brown has been busy with his solo projects. It’s clear that even after all these years, The Stone Roses still have a special place in the hearts of their fans.
