Special counsel David Weiss counters President Biden’s claims of unfair treatment in Hunter’s legal troubles

Wilmington: The special prosecutor, David Weiss, who charged Hunter Biden, is pushing back against President Biden’s claims that his son was unfairly targeted. Weiss argues that the investigations were thorough and not politically motivated.
In his report, Weiss stated that the president’s views were incorrect and emphasized that the prosecutions stemmed from impartial investigations. The report, released by Attorney General Merrick Garland, doesn’t reveal much new information but reiterates the findings from previous court cases.
Hunter faced serious charges, including felony counts related to a gun purchase while he was struggling with addiction. He also pleaded guilty to multiple tax charges for failing to file returns. Despite the legal issues, President Biden had previously promised not to pardon his son but later granted him clemency for all federal crimes since 2014.
In his statement about the pardon, Biden expressed that Hunter was unfairly prosecuted, claiming it was solely because he is the president’s son. Hunter’s lawyers have also argued that the charges were selective, but judges dismissed these claims during the trials.
Weiss, who was appointed by Trump, began investigating Hunter before Biden took office. His report comes as the public awaits another special counsel report regarding Donald Trump. Weiss’s responses to the president’s claims are pointed, but he acknowledges Biden’s right to issue the pardon.
Some Republicans are calling for more charges against Hunter, alleging violations related to foreign business dealings. However, Weiss noted that the pardon limits the discussion of any additional charges.
Garland’s letter to Congress did not mention Weiss’s rebuttal to the president’s statements, and the Justice Department has not commented further on the report.
