New York City: Zohran Mamdani, the socialist Assemblyman from Queens, has pulled in a whopping $642,339 in his latest fundraising push. His team shared that he got support from 6,502 unique donors.

Most of the cash, about 84%, came from folks right here in NYC, and the average donation was just $50. Pretty cool, right?

Thanks to the city’s public financing program, his campaign expects to see at least $300,000 matched, which could add up to an extra $2.4 million. That’s a game changer!

Mamdani expressed his excitement, saying, “This is beyond our highest expectations.” He’s thrilled not just about the money but also the diverse group of supporters backing him.

His campaign has been making waves with eye-catching social media posts and a focus on affordability. Still, many see his run as a long shot because of his far-left views.

On the last day of the fundraising period, which wrapped up last Saturday, his team raised $81,000. Mamdani feels confident that his campaign is just getting started.

He pointed out that working-class New Yorkers are fed up with the same old policies. He’s pushing for a rent freeze, free buses, and universal childcare as key issues.

Mamdani kicked off his campaign in October without transferring any funds from his state account. He shared these impressive numbers just ahead of the public fundraising deadline.

Before this round of fundraising, only one other candidate, former City Comptroller Scott Stringer, had qualified for matching funds. Most others hadn’t hit the required threshold yet, and Mayor Adams was denied funds due to a federal corruption case.

Meanwhile, State Sen. Zellnor Myrie has also raised enough to unlock over $2.3 million in public matching funds, totaling $647,449 since he started his campaign. Another candidate, Jim Walden, raised nearly $630,000 recently as well.
