Porter admitted he was in on a scheme where he would pull out of games early, pretending to be hurt or sick. This way, folks who knew his plans could bet on him not performing well. It’s pretty wild!
In a recent court document, they shared a text Porter sent, saying things like “Hit unders for the big numbers.” He was basically giving tips on how to bet against himself. He even planned to play just a few minutes before claiming his eye was bothering him again.
He had scratched his eye in a game, but when the Raptors played the LA Clippers a few days later, he wasn’t even on the injury list. He ended up playing a little over four minutes before saying he had to sit out due to the eye issue. His performance was way below what the sportsbooks expected.
Porter said he got involved in this mess to pay off his gambling debts. He’s facing sentencing in May, and it could be anywhere from no jail time to 20 years. They think he might get around three and a half to four years.
As for the latest arrest, Shane Hennen was taken into custody at the Las Vegas airport. He’s accused of placing bets based on Porter’s inside info. Hennen got released without bail after his arraignment, but the court documents suggest there might be more people involved in this whole scheme.
