Sean Manaea expresses his desire for the Mets to bring back Pete Alonso as negotiations continue
Manaea is really rooting for Alonso to come back to the Mets, even though the two sides haven’t reached an agreement yet. He said, “I’d definitely love to have him back on the Mets and be our first baseman.”
They’ve been hitting the gym together, and Manaea joked that Alonso gets there earlier than he does. While they wait on Alonso, the Mets are looking ahead to 2025, especially with Juan Soto now on the team.
Manaea praised Soto, saying he brings a lot of energy and talent. He’s excited to have him on board after they played together in San Diego.
Last season was tough for Manaea, but he’s hoping to bounce back like he did during his first year with the Mets. He had a solid second half, and the coaching staff really helped him improve.
Manaea feels like the Mets are the right fit for him, especially after pitching a career-high number of innings last season. He’s also excited about the new additions to the pitching rotation, including Frankie Montas.
As the offseason wraps up, Manaea is focusing on improving his changeup, which he admits has been a bit hit or miss in the past.
