Sean Manaea is thrilled to return to the Mets after a standout season, eager to build on his success with the team.
He mentioned, “Based off last year with the coaching staff and everything, I thought it was a perfect fit.” His wife also loved the family vibe, and he appreciated the organization’s efforts and the support from pitching coach Jeremy Hefner. Manaea had a solid season, going 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA over 32 starts, even receiving Cy Young votes. He found success with a new sweeper pitch he taught himself and a fastball with a lower release point, thanks to Hefner’s guidance.
Manaea enjoyed experimenting with pitches and felt comfortable in New York, a change from his California roots. He loved the vibrant culture and even found joy in his subway rides to games. In the clubhouse, he respected the leadership of players like Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo but encouraged his fellow pitchers to support each other, creating a strong team culture.
He’s also excited to reunite with his friend Frankie Montas, who he believes will add to the positive atmosphere. Manaea is thrilled to settle down with his wife in New York, especially with a three-year contract. He’s continuing to work on his game and is eager to contribute to a strong starting rotation alongside players like Kodai Senga and David Peterson. With Manaea back, the Mets are not just set in their rotation but also in their team culture.
