Despite a rough finish, NFL execs believe Darnold’s market remains strong
Darnold had a tough playoff run, throwing just one touchdown in two games. He was sacked nine times in the wild-card loss to the Rams.
He signed with the Vikings for one year and $10 million, stepping in for injured rookie J.J. McCarthy. Darnold helped the team achieve a 14-3 record, surprising many who doubted him.
But things took a turn in the last two games. In the regular-season finale against the Lions, he struggled, completing only 18 of 41 passes for 166 yards.
The Vikings lost that game 31-9, and Darnold faced more challenges in the playoffs. He admitted he made mistakes and could have played better.
Despite the disappointing finish, coach Kevin O’Connell praised Darnold’s overall performance this season. He emphasized the importance of looking at Darnold’s entire body of work.
Now, as free agency approaches, it’s unclear where Darnold will end up. With several teams needing quarterbacks, he could still be a valuable option for those looking for experience.
