Ryan Day’s triumph at Ohio State’s national championship sparks strong support from fans and former players alike
Atlanta: The buzz was electric when Ryan Day led Ohio State to a national championship. After a tough loss to Michigan, many were questioning his future. But the Buckeyes pulled off a solid 34-23 win against Notre Dame, marking their first title since 2014.
Social media lit up with support for Day. Robert Griffin III tweeted, “Seems that Ryan Day CAN WIN BIG GAMES,” right after the victory. It was a big moment for the coach, who faced a lot of pressure this season.
Former Buckeye J.K. Dobbins also congratulated Day, saying, “You deserve this moment!” Even Kirk Herbstreit, a former Ohio State QB, got emotional during his postgame analysis, highlighting the challenges Day and his family faced.
Day even earned some respect from a Notre Dame fan, comedian Shane Gillis, who tweeted, “We all agree Ryan Day is cool as hell right.” It’s nice to see some good vibes coming from rival fans!
Despite a 10-2 regular season, with losses to Oregon and Michigan, Day faced calls for his job. But he led the Buckeyes through a tough playoff, beating Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas to reach the championship.
In the final moments against Notre Dame, quarterback Will Howard connected with Jeremiah Smith for a crucial 56-yard pass, sealing the win. Day reflected on the night, saying, “It’s the reason why you get into coaching… See guys overcome things, learn life lessons, and reach their dreams.”
