Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Ashley Moody to replace Marco Rubio in the Senate, ahead of Rubio’s new role in the Trump administration.

Orlando: So, Ron DeSantis just announced that Ashley Moody will take over Marco Rubio’s Senate seat. This news came out during a press conference, and it’s a big deal for Florida.
DeSantis had been mulling over his choice for a while. He made the announcement just before Rubio is set to become President Trump’s secretary of state. Timing is everything, right?
During the announcement, DeSantis highlighted that illegal immigration has been a major issue lately. He believes Moody will be tough on immigration, help cut spending, and support Trump’s agenda.
Interestingly, he held off on announcing her sooner because he didn’t want the media to go after them before Rubio officially takes his new job.
Now, Moody will have to run in a special election in November 2026 to keep her seat, with another election lined up for 2028. It’s going to be a busy few years!
DeSantis has been spending time with Trump lately, even hitting the golf course together. They seem to be smoothing over their past differences from the 2024 election.
Oh, and Lara Trump was also in the mix for the Senate seat but has since pulled out. It’s all quite the political shuffle!
