Washington: Residents at Parc Riverside Apartments are feeling pretty anxious these days. The elevators have been acting up, and it’s becoming a real hassle. One of the three elevators has been out of order for about four years, and now the second one is down too. Just last Wednesday, the last working elevator stopped functioning.

Jonathan Lubecky, a resident and veteran, shared his worries. He’s seen how the broken elevators affect his neighbors, especially those who can’t use the stairs. He pointed out that in case of a fire, people with disabilities could be in serious trouble. It’s a scary thought, right?

Another resident, Javier, recently had surgery and is struggling with the stairs. He mentioned that when the elevators are out, it’s a safety issue for those who can’t manage the stairs. If someone is stuck on the fifth floor, they’re basically stranded.

After dealing with this for almost two years, residents decided to take action. They wrote a letter to management, calling the situation “intolerable” and highlighting that it violates DC code. A spokesperson for Parc Riverside said they currently have one elevator working and are fixing the second one. However, the third elevator will take longer to repair.

Residents are fed up and have given management a deadline of February 1 to fix the elevators. If nothing changes, they’re considering withholding rent. The DC Department of Buildings is also looking into the situation, as they’ve received complaints about the nonworking elevators. They’ll check if the elevators have the necessary inspection reports and take action if needed. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
