Rangers’ K’Andre Miller Struggles with Production and Defense This Season

DENVER: K’Andre Miller, who came up through the U.S. National Team Development Program and played at the University of Wisconsin, was once seen as a promising two-way defenseman. His athleticism and skating skills, along with his early days as a forward, hinted at a bright offensive future.

But this season, his fifth with the Rangers, has been a tough ride. Entering a recent game against the Avalanche, he had only two goals. His defensive game has also taken a hit, which is concerning. It seems like his confidence is tied to his offensive output.

Miller himself acknowledged he wants to contribute more. He mentioned trying to stay positive and support his teammates, even when things aren’t going his way. So far this season, he’s got two goals and five assists, with a minus-five rating over 39 games. Last season, he had seven goals and nine assists in the same number of games, so it’s a noticeable drop.

He’s had a rough time finding the net, too. Last year, he didn’t score until late in the first half of the season. The Rangers have struggled defensively as a team, and while Miller isn’t solely to blame, he’s been part of the problem.

In a recent game, he lost control of the puck, leading to a game-tying goal. But on a brighter note, he’s found some chemistry with teammate Will Borgen. They’ve been playing well together, and Miller feels more confident lately.

Borgen praised Miller’s skills and communication on the ice, and the head coach noted that their pairing has been effective. It seems like they’re starting to click, which is a good sign for Miller as he works to regain his form.
