Cape Town: So, there’s been a pretty serious situation going on in South Africa. A group called MACUA is saying that over 400 illegal miners are still stuck underground after a police raid two months ago. They’ve even shared some pretty graphic videos showing the dire conditions down there.
In one video, you can see bodies wrapped in sacks, and the living miners are begging for help. It’s heartbreaking. A reporter counted about three dozen bodies in the footage, but it’s tough to confirm if they’re really corpses.
Another video shows some miners looking really thin, their ribs sticking out. It’s just awful. The South African authorities are on-site now, trying to prepare for a rescue operation. They’ve retrieved some bodies but haven’t shared many details yet.
This whole mess started back in November when police cut off food and water to force the miners out. They were looking for leftover gold, which has been a big issue in South Africa for years. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
