Police are looking into online abuse directed at Kai Havertz’s wife after Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United
Kai, who’s 25, had a chance to score but missed, and then his penalty was saved during the shootout. Sophia, who’s pregnant with their first child, shared some of the hurtful messages she received on Instagram. Arsenal has even brought in a tech company to help find out who sent those messages.
A spokesperson from Hertfordshire Constabulary said they got a report about the malicious messages and are looking into it. Sophia called one of the messages ‘shocking’ and asked her followers to be more respectful. She expressed her disbelief that anyone would think it’s okay to send such messages.
Before Arsenal’s next match against Tottenham, manager Mikel Arteta spoke out about the issue. He emphasized that this kind of behavior needs to stop, saying it has serious consequences. He pointed out that the narrative around players and their performances needs to change, and everyone, including the media, has a role in that.
Arteta stressed that while they focus on technology and advancements in football, the real next step should be to eliminate this kind of abuse. It’s a serious matter that affects everyone in the sport.
