The Piper PA-31 was flying with just the pilot when it crashed around 3 p.m. near an overpass in Victoria, about 150 miles southwest of Houston. The FAA reported that three vehicles were hit, and photos showed the plane wreckage on top of a car.

Victoria Police Deputy Chief Eline Moya mentioned that three people had non-life-threatening injuries. One person was taken to a hospital for more serious care, while the pilot was being checked out. Moya didn’t say if the pilot was among those hospitalized.

“This isn’t something we see every day, but thankfully everyone seems to be okay,” Moya said.

Details about the pilot’s name and condition weren’t available right away. The FAA is looking into what caused the crash.

One witness, Tony Poynor, described hearing the plane’s engine as he approached an intersection. He saw the plane’s shadow on the wall and then it flew right over his truck. “It started to wobble about a quarter of a mile ahead of me,” he recalled.

After the crash, he went to the plane and found the pilot conscious but unable to get out.
