Philadelphia: The Union just announced that Bradley Carnell is their new head coach. This comes after they let go of Jim Curtin last November.

Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner expressed confidence in Carnell, saying they believe he can help the team get back on track and become a winning squad.

Carnell, who signed a two-year deal, is the fourth head coach in the Union’s history. Before this, he coached St. Louis CITY SC, where he had a mixed record. Tanner mentioned they sifted through over 100 applications to find the right fit.

Carnell is excited about the project, emphasizing the importance of the club’s philosophy and community. He wants to build a team that’s tough to play against while also respecting the club’s history.

A bit about Carnell: he’s 47, hails from Johannesburg, and had a solid playing career as a defender. He represented South Africa in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and has coaching experience with the New York Red Bulls and St. Louis.

Last season, the Union struggled, finishing 12th in the Eastern Conference and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Carnell is committed to developing both young talent and seasoned players.

The Union kicks off their regular season on February 22 against Orlando City.
