Sam Riber surprised his girlfriend with a mid-flight proposal inspired by a classic movie scene

Charlotte: A Pennsylvania CEO pulled off a romantic mid-flight proposal inspired by “The Wedding Singer.” Sam Riber, 34, surprised his girlfriend, Lissy Alden, 37, while they were flying to Mexico for her birthday.
Sam, a big fan of the movie, planned this special moment for October 2024. He managed to sneak a prop guitar onto the plane without Lissy catching on. With the help of flight attendants, he set up a codeword to pull off the surprise.
During their flight from Charlotte to Mexico City on Christmas Eve, Sam serenaded Lissy with the movie’s song and proposed. She said yes, and he couldn’t believe how perfectly it all came together.
The couple met at a Shabbat dinner in February 2024 and felt an instant connection. After eight months of dating, Sam knew he wanted to propose and started planning.
He loved the film and wanted to recreate the iconic scene where Adam Sandler’s character serenades his love interest. Lissy had never seen the movie, so Sam cleverly introduced it to her during a movie night.
With the flight attendants’ help, including Teri Ramirez, Sam organized everything perfectly. They even used the codeword “juice” to signal when it was time for him to grab the hidden guitar.
Lissy was thrilled when Sam got down on one knee. She initially thought the celebration was just for her birthday, but when he proposed, she felt pure joy. It was a moment they both will cherish forever.
Now engaged, the couple is enjoying this exciting time together, though they haven’t set any wedding plans just yet.
