PANAMA CITY: The city is rolling out a tree giveaway program starting this month. They’re giving away 15,000 free trees to help replace the ones lost during Hurricane Michael back in 2018.

With a $1 million grant, Panama City is making it happen. They’ll hold events in each ward on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Mark your calendars! The first giveaway is on January 18 at McKenzie Park. Then, there are more events on March 22, April 26, May 24, October 18, and November 15 at various parks around town.

Each household can snag two free trees. To get one, you need to be a Bay County resident and fill out a registration form. You can do this at the event or register online ahead of time.

This year, they’ll have trees like red maples and Sweet Bay magnolias. The city plans to give away 3,000 trees each year for the next five years, with the rest being planted on city property.

The goal is to help the environment and improve the area for both residents and wildlife. It’s a great chance to get involved in the community and make your home a little greener!
