Barcelona: Every year, I take on the role of planning our family vacation. It’s a mix of excitement and stress, especially with everyone’s different tastes. But a Mediterranean cruise seemed to be the perfect fit for us all.

Being the eldest daughter, I get to play travel agent for my family. My parents finally have the time and resources to travel, which is great. The only catch? I have kids whose moods can swing like a pendulum.

The goal is to create unforgettable memories without the drama. My mom loves Europe, my younger son prefers Asian food and hates walking, and my older son is all about his vibe. My dad just wants to keep costs down.

Despite the challenges, our best family trip was a weeklong Mediterranean cruise last summer. We sailed on the Celebrity Edge, starting in Barcelona and ending in Rome. It turned out to be the perfect way to travel with both kids and grandparents.

Barcelona was a fantastic starting point. Once we boarded the ship, any tiredness vanished. The boarding process was a breeze compared to airports.

Once in our rooms, we were ready to embrace the cruise life. The adults loved the ocean views, while the kids were excited about the collectible necklaces waiting for them.

Dining was a treat. We had four specialty restaurants to choose from, and we tried them all. The food was amazing, and even my parents, who usually eat less, couldn’t resist dessert.

When we weren’t eating, we were busy with activities. My youngest enjoyed Camp at Sea, while my teenager found friends at Teen Camp. I took my mom to an art workshop and my dad to the theater.

We explored beautiful places like Valencia, Ibiza, and Rome at our own pace. By the end of the trip, we all agreed to cruise again. Since then, we’ve gone on two more cruises, proving that this is our favorite way to travel together.
