Amad Diallo shines for Manchester United, proving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s faith right while Erik ten Hag missed the mark
Manchester: Sunday’s FA Cup win against Arsenal was a big moment for Amad. He scored a crucial penalty in the shootout, helping United secure a 5-3 victory.
Amad joined United from Atalanta in January 2021, eager to make his mark in England. Now, at 22, he’s finally showing his potential, thanks to coach Ruben Amorim.
Since Amorim took over, Amad has seen more action, playing nearly 30% of his games for United under him. He’s even in the running for Player of the Season!
Starting as a right-sided wing-back, Amad has recently moved into a No.10 role, scoring against big teams like Manchester City and Liverpool. He’s becoming a go-to player in crucial matches.
His recent performances earned him a new long-term deal, keeping him at United until 2030. He’s excited about it, saying he wants to stay even longer.
However, it’s puzzling that he had to wait for Amorim to get a real chance. Erik ten Hag, the previous coach, didn’t give him many opportunities, only letting him play 24 times.
After a successful loan at Sunderland last season, Amad returned hoping to impress Ten Hag. But an injury sidelined him until December 2023.
Even when he was back, Ten Hag rarely called on him. Fans were confused when Ten Hag chose another player over Amad last February.
Despite the setbacks, Amad kept working hard and finally got the minutes he deserved. He shone during pre-season in the U.S., but Ten Hag still didn’t start him often.
In contrast, under Amorim, Amad has started nine out of 13 games. If Solskjaer had stayed longer, Amad’s career at United might have taken off sooner.
Solskjaer once said that United has a proud history of developing young talent and believed Amad had what it takes to succeed. He was right; Amad just needed time.
Now, with his new contract, it looks like United is planning for him to become the key player Solskjaer envisioned. And with Amorim’s support, he’s on the right track.
