Muskogee: Steve Beauvais is a busy guy, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. By day, he’s a special operations officer at the Muskogee Fire Department. When the clock strikes 5 p.m., he heads over to his gym, Strictly Fitness, which he bought in 2023.

Growing up, Beauvais always wanted to work in law enforcement. After high school, he took a job at Zapata, a plant that made bottle caps. When he heard rumors about its closure, he decided to look for something more stable. A friend who worked at the fire department encouraged him to apply. It took him three tries, but he finally got hired in 2001, just before Zapata moved its operations to Mexico.

After joining the fire department, he trained at Oklahoma State University. He loves firefighting, even with its demanding schedule of 24 hours on and 48 hours off. He spends a lot of time at the fire station, which he says takes up a third of his life. He believes you need a servant’s heart for this job, and he feels he’s always had that.

In 2023, he became a special operations officer, but his work doesn’t stop when his shift ends. He’s been a gym enthusiast for years and finally bought Strictly Fitness. He’s been going there since the 90s and finds time to work out during his evening shifts.

Beauvais also does reserve work with the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office. He spent two years as a school resource officer, which he enjoyed. He liked being there for the kids and ensuring their safety.

His time with the fire department has been filled with both challenges and laughs. He even spent years as a fire prevention clown named Bobo, teaching kids about fire safety. He recalls the intense fire at the Georgia-Pacific paper plant in 2019, which was one of the biggest challenges he faced.

Beauvais loves helping people, whether it’s through firefighting or his work as a reserve deputy. He finds it rewarding to assist those in need, especially in tough situations. He also enjoyed his time as a school resource officer, where he built relationships with students.

Owning a fitness center has its ups and downs, but he loves it. He enjoys working with his staff and members, making sure everyone has what they need. He even pitches in with cleaning duties. The best part? Seeing members leave with a smile after a good workout.

When asked about his roots, Beauvais shared that he was born in Texas but moved to Muskogee in third grade. He feels at home here and knows many people in the community. He hopes to see Muskogee grow and attract more industries for better job opportunities.

His most memorable moment? The birth of his daughter, who he’s still very close to. In his spare time, he focuses on family and catching up on chores. To sum up Muskogee, he describes it as a friendly hometown with great potential for growth. It’s a place that truly feels like home to him.
