New York: Susan Nussbaum is in a tough spot after calling 1-800-GOT-JUNK. She thought they were helping her move, but now she feels like she’s got a big problem.

She had used their service before, so when it was time to get rid of some furniture before moving, she thought it would be easy. She had a bed, a bookshelf, and a big wall unit to toss out.

But here’s the kicker: that wall unit had a safe inside, packed with around $100,000 worth of jewelry and family keepsakes. Now, she’s suing the company, claiming their workers stole it.

She had emptied the wall unit, but the safe was too heavy for her to lift. She meant to ask the movers for help but got distracted and left to check out a new bed.

When she got back, the truck was already gone. She called them right away, but they said they didn’t see anything in the truck. That’s when she started to panic.

Her friend had to take over the call because she was so upset. Nussbaum even offered a reward for the safe’s return, but the customer service team didn’t seem to grasp how serious this was.

According to her lawyer, the company’s employees acted in a deceptive way, and she wants her safe back. Surveillance footage shows the movers taking the wall unit, and she’s convinced they saw the safe but didn’t say anything.

After the incident in October 2023, she’s been searching eBay, hoping to find her missing jewelry. It wasn’t just valuable; it held a lot of sentimental value too.

Among the lost items are family heirlooms, like rings from her grandmothers and her wedding band from her late husband. She’s been heartbroken over it.

Nussbaum, who’s 70, has moved around Manhattan since her husband passed away almost nine years ago. She wishes she had taken the stuff out of the safe before the movers arrived.

1-800-GOT-JUNK claims she signed paperwork saying she no longer owned the items they took. They insist their team didn’t steal anything and followed her instructions to remove the wall unit.

They even took pictures before and after the job, but Nussbaum hasn’t seen those. The company says they didn’t find a safe in the wall unit when they disposed of it.

She’s been haunted by this every day, thinking about what she lost and how she planned to pass those items down to her kids.
