New York City is set to receive six inches of snow starting Sunday afternoon, with frigid temperatures and wind chills expected to follow
New York City: A polar vortex is about to hit the Big Apple, bringing six inches of snow this Sunday afternoon. It’s going to be super cold, with wind chills dropping to minus-15 degrees.
The city is under a winter weather advisory starting at 1 p.m. and lasting into Monday morning. Expect freezing temps and a messy commute as the snow piles up.
According to meteorologist Marissa Lautenbacher, the temperature will drop sharply, and we’ll see a mix of freezing rain before the heavy snow arrives. So, get ready for a chilly evening!
By dinner time, the snow will be coming down hard, and it’s going to be frigid with lows around 17 degrees. The five boroughs can expect four to six inches, while coastal areas might see three to five inches.
New Jersey is also preparing for the storm, with a state of emergency declared as they could get up to 10 inches of snow. Washington, D.C. and the I-95 corridor are in for a similar treat.
Lautenbacher advises everyone to get their errands done early and stay home later in the day. Mayor Adams is warning about potential road disruptions, so it’s best to use public transport if you can.
The snow should wrap up around 1 a.m., but the cold will stick around for a while. Wind chills will remain low, and gusts could reach 20 mph, prompting a “Code Blue” alert.
With schools closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, plows will have a better chance to clear the roads. Stay warm and safe out there!
