Cumbria: So, it’s been a bit of a mess in North Cumbria lately. The snow really piled up, causing all sorts of trouble on the roads.
They had an amber weather warning in place from Saturday night until Monday lunchtime. It was no joke! The cold weather alert is sticking around too, lasting until the following Sunday.
Over the weekend, a bunch of roads were shut down. The A66 was closed in both directions, and some of those Lake District passes like Wrynose and Hardknott were also off-limits at different times.
There was even a crash on Wrynose Pass. Initially, it sounded like a big deal with ten vehicles involved, but it turned out to be just two. Thankfully, no one got hurt, but the roads were super slippery.
Allerdale police were busy dealing with multiple incidents, urging folks to only travel if they really had to. They were on the scene for several weather-related accidents.
Bus services in West Cumbria took a hit too. Stagecoach had to cancel all their services due to the severe conditions, which was a bummer for many. They warned that disruptions might continue into Monday.
Fellview Primary School in Caldbeck decided to close on January 7, and more closures might be announced later. The Cumberland council gave a shout-out to their staff for working hard to keep things running smoothly despite the weather.
