Train services in Salford will be halted on multiple weekends in 2025 due to station upgrades
Salford Crescent is one of the busiest stations in Greater Manchester, with about 1.2 million entries and exits each year. It serves routes across the North West, including to Manchester and the airport.
While the work is happening, a section of University Road West will be closed for about a year starting January 13. Network Rail is putting in a diversion route to keep access open for residents.
The upgrades at Salford Crescent are expected to wrap up in 2026. There’s also a £10 million project at Salford Central station this year, which will close from February 10 to April 21.
Passengers should be aware that no train services will run in Salford on specific weekends in 2025, including March 1-2, March 8-9, and several others through May and September.
Network Rail’s Ben Porter mentioned that the new platform will help manage train movements better, leading to smoother journeys. He acknowledged the inconvenience for drivers and thanked them for their patience.
Salford council’s Mike McCusker emphasized that this investment is crucial for the city’s transport future. He assured that plans are in place to minimize disruption.
Simon Elliott from TfGM added that these upgrades are essential for improving the overall transport network in Greater Manchester, enhancing the passenger experience and connectivity.
