Didsbury: Good news for folks in south Manchester! The Environment Agency says no more flooding is expected as they work on fixing a damaged flood defence basin.

Recently, heavy rain and melting snow caused the River Mersey to rise, prompting a flood warning for the Palatine Road area. Thankfully, the situation is looking better now.

On Sunday night, the council reassured residents that while there were no evacuation orders, emergency services were out checking on people to keep them informed.

Even though two flood warnings are still active, the council reported that things are improving. They advised everyone to stay cautious and avoid low-lying areas near the river.

The Environment Agency noted that the intense rainfall led to the highest river levels in 66 years. The Didsbury flood storage basin, which helped protect over 280 homes, was damaged but is now being pumped out for repairs.

Councillor Bev Craig mentioned that the council is in constant touch with emergency services to support residents. They’re keeping a close eye on the situation and will reach out to anyone affected if things change.
