Laura Caron, a South Jersey teacher, is accused of sexually assaulting a minor and giving birth to his child.

She was arrested on Wednesday and faces some heavy charges, including aggravated assault of a minor. The baby was born in 2019, and it’s believed to be a result of that abuse.
Caron met the boy, now 20, while he was a student at Middle Township Elementary School, where she worked. The alleged incidents reportedly began around New Year’s Day in 2018.
The boy and his siblings lived with Caron, and it seems he first started spending nights there before moving in full-time in 2016. The children’s dad even mentioned on Facebook that Caron’s baby looked like him and his son.
In a text, the victim told his sister he was the father of the 5-year-old child. He also shared that he was about 11 when he and Caron began sharing a bed.
Caron had become friends with the kids’ parents, which is how they ended up staying at her place. Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland expressed how troubling this situation is, emphasizing the trust teachers hold.
The Middle Township School District is cooperating with the investigation, and Sutherland promised to support the victim and his family. If convicted, Caron could face up to 20 years in prison.
