Denver: The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame just revealed its Athletes of the Year, and it’s a big deal for local sports fans. The announcement came out on Thursday.

Nuggets star Nikola Jokic and Avalanche player Nathan MacKinnon are the top picks for Pro Athletes of the Year. Jokic, a three-time NBA MVP, had an amazing season, averaging 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and nine assists per game. He even pulled off 25 triple-doubles while shooting an impressive 58.3% from the field. MacKinnon also had a standout year, scoring a career-high 51 goals and setting a franchise record with 140 points, leading the NHL in shots on goal.

In college sports, Heisman winner Travis Hunter from CU and CSU Pueblo’s Alisha Little made the cut. Hunter had a fantastic season with 96 catches for 1,258 yards and a record 15 touchdowns. He also shined on defense with four interceptions. Little was a powerhouse for her team, leading in double-doubles and earning second-team All-America honors.

High school athletes also got some love, with Scottie Vines and Chloe Elarton being named the top high school athletes. Vines made history as the first male athlete from western Colorado to win this award since 1988, taking home two national titles in high jump. Elarton helped her team win a third straight state title and is set to play for Georgia next year.

The Hall of Fame will also honor Colorado Christian’s men’s golf team for their national championship win. Jeff Clark, a long-time Special Olympics competitor, will receive the Athlete with Disabilities Award for his work in creating more opportunities for aging athletes.

All these amazing athletes will be celebrated at the Hall of Fame’s 60th annual Induction & Awards Banquet on April 9 at the Hilton Denver City Center. Tickets are available for $250, and sponsor tables start at $3,000. For more details, check out ColoradoSports.org or call 720-258-3535.
