Menlo Park: There’s a new spot in town called Eylan, and it’s making waves. This restaurant comes from chef Srijith Gopinathan and Ayesha Thapar, the duo behind Copra and Ettan.

Eylan is all about design. It’s got a cozy vibe with earthy colors and cool geometric patterns. The place can seat 148 people, and it’s located at The Villa Menlo Park.

Ayesha describes the decor as a “beautiful hot mess” that’s meant to uplift diners. They even have faux olive trees in the dining area, which is a fun touch for those Instagram moments.

There’s also a refurbished rickshaw from India, covered in colorful fabrics, which Ayesha hopes will be a hit with guests looking to snap a pic.

The menu is focused on wood-fire cooking, featuring some unique Indian dishes. One standout is Gopinathan’s grandmother’s coconut-curry sauce, which will be part of a tasting menu with lobster seekh kebab.

They’re putting a twist on butter chicken, using tomatillos and Cornish game hen. Gopinathan says tomatillos remind him of the tomatoes back home in India.

Plus, they’ll have some breads you don’t usually see in Indian restaurants, like mutabar stuffed with Dungeness crab and poee, a leavened bread from Goa.

Other exciting dishes include a whole sea bream with a spiced crust, caviar with fried mushrooms, and a masala chai sundae that sounds divine.

The bar menu, crafted by Copra’s bar manager, has some cool non-alcoholic options and low-ABV drinks. One highlight is the Bazaar Paloma, which mixes tamarind, grapefruit, and mezcal.

Eylan is set to officially open on January 15 at 500 El Camino Real. For now, you can check out their Instagram, but the website isn’t live yet. They’ll be open from 5 pm to 10 pm, Tuesday through Sunday.
