Steven A. Ricard, a Navy veteran, is honored among 14 inductees in the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame this January
The induction ceremony is set for January 23 at 5 p.m. in Rocky Hill. Ricard has a rich history, having served on submarines and even leading the U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. He was also the chairman of the New London Veterans Advisory Committee.
Originally from Belmont, New Hampshire, he joined the Navy in 1971. He trained at Basic Enlisted Submarine School and served on the USS Nathanael Greene. He became a qualified submariner in 1973 and even took on the role of ship’s diver.
After 9/11, he was called back to active duty and became a senior military leader at the Naval Submarine Base. He later returned to the reserves and retired in 2005.
Ricard has been married to Elaine for 47 years and has three kids and three grandkids. Before retiring in 2018, he worked as a defense contractor and was active in local organizations like the New London Little League and the Boy Scouts.
Governor Ned Lamont praised veterans like Ricard for their ongoing commitment to community service. Other inductees include veterans from various branches, showcasing the diverse contributions of Connecticut’s military members.
