Bury: A new estate of 87 homes is in the works for a grassy area between Radcliffe and Bury. Westchurch Homes has submitted plans to Bury Council for this development off Dumers Lane, right by the Bealey Industrial Estate.

Most of the site is a mix of unmanaged grassland, bramble, and some self-seeded trees. The rest is used for storing buses and has some industrial buildings and a car wash.

There are already houses along the southeastern side of the site across from Dumers Lane. Westchurch plans to build a mix of flats and houses, including 18 one-bedroom flats, 14 two-bedroom houses, 34 three-bedroom houses, and 21 four-bedroom homes. They’re also including 142 parking spaces for residents and visitors.

The developer claims this will be a fully affordable scheme, providing quality homes for those who can’t afford market prices. They believe reusing this brownfield site will help ease the pressure on green belt land.

Westchurch stated that the design aims to balance private space with developed land. They plan to keep good distances between the new homes and existing ones nearby. Access will be from Dumers Lane, with a central road running through the site and creating cul-de-sacs.

The buildings will be two to 2.5 stories high, and the site is seen as a good spot for housing within the urban area, just outside the green belt. Now, Bury Council planners will take a look at the proposal.
