Neil Gaiman denies sexual assault claims made by multiple women in a recent article
New York: Best-selling author Neil Gaiman has come out swinging against allegations of sexual assault. He released a statement denying any non-consensual encounters after a New York Magazine article featured claims from several women.
The 64-year-old, known for works like “The Sandman” and “American Gods,” responded to accusations from eight women. Some of these claims were previously shared in a podcast back in July.
Gaiman expressed his shock at the stories circulating online, saying he felt “horror and dismay.” He acknowledged that while some accounts felt familiar, others were completely off-base. He firmly stated he has never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity.
He also reflected on past interactions with his accusers, noting they seemed to show two people in consensual relationships. However, he admitted he could have been more considerate and emotionally available, which he deeply regrets.
Most allegations date back to when Gaiman was in his 40s, living in various countries, including the U.S., Britain, and New Zealand. One accuser, Scarlett Pavlovich, claimed she met him through his then-wife in 2022 and alleged abuse starting that very night.
Pavlovich had previously shared some of her claims in the podcast and filed a police report in January 2023. New Zealand Police have not confirmed if Gaiman is under investigation, citing privacy rights for complainants.
Attempts to reach Gaiman’s representatives and publishers for comments went unanswered. Meanwhile, streaming platforms like Amazon Prime and Netflix, which have projects linked to him, also haven’t responded.
Gaiman has a rich history of creating works that have been adapted into films and TV shows, making this situation particularly notable.
