A community rallies to support Walt Butler after devastating wildfires destroyed his home and belongings in Altadena, California

Altadena: A local sports legend is getting a huge boost from his community after losing everything in a wildfire. Walt Butler, 83, saw his home go up in flames during the Eaton fire.
His son set up a GoFundMe, and it’s already raised over $720,000. That’s incredible! Walt is trying to wrap his head around the loss but is determined to bounce back.
He’s got a positive attitude, saying he’ll replace his Corvette soon. Walt’s family is stepping up to help him through this tough time, which is heartwarming to see.
Walt, known as “The Jet,” was a star athlete in high school and still holds records in hurdles. He’s also been running his shoe store in Pasadena since 1979.
When he returned to what was left of his home, he was shocked. Everything was gone, including his classic cars. But he’s not letting it get him down.
Walt had a feeling something bad was coming before the fire. He even mentioned seeing a red moon the night before. It’s wild how he sensed it.
He and his girlfriend had to leave everything behind and sleep in their car. But they managed to stay positive. Walt knows he’ll recover and is grateful for the support he’s received from the community he’s always been a part of.
“I will overcome this,” he said confidently. “By next month, I’ll have my Corvette back.”
