Jackson: So, Tommy Duff, one of the wealthiest guys in Mississippi, just set up a political action committee, or PAC, to help get Republican candidates elected. Pretty interesting move, right?

He filed the paperwork for the Duff PAC back in December. And guess what? He’s also thinking about running for governor in 2027. His competition? Some big names in the GOP like Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and Attorney General Lynn Fitch.

According to PAC Director Jordan Russell, Duff has always been a big supporter of conservative candidates. The idea behind the PAC is to organize his political efforts better, especially with elections coming up in 2025.

With a net worth of around $3 billion, Duff is looking to make a significant impact. Russell mentioned they plan to invest heavily in various races to ensure strong conservative leadership in Mississippi.

There are a bunch of elections coming up this year, including some special ones due to recent vacancies. Plus, there’s a federally mandated redistricting that could shake things up even more.

On another note, Attorney General Lynn Fitch recently shared her legislative priorities for 2025. She’s pushing for better campaign finance laws to keep out-of-state money from influencing Mississippi elections.

Fitch also wants to create an Opioid Settlement Fund to manage over $300 million from settlements related to the opioid crisis. She’s got a lot on her plate!

In a sad turn, the Mississippi Democratic Party is mourning the loss of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away recently. They’re remembering him for his humility and dedication to service, especially his work with Habitat for Humanity.

Carter was a beloved figure in Mississippi, and his passing has hit many hard. He was the last Democratic candidate to win the state, and his visits here were always memorable.

So, it’s a busy time in Mississippi politics, with a lot happening on both sides of the aisle!
