Michelle Obama won’t attend Trump’s inauguration, but Obama, Clinton, and Bush will be present with their spouses.
Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton are set to join their husbands for the swearing-in ceremony on January 20. The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed that Michelle won’t be attending.
No reason was given for her absence, but she also missed Jimmy Carter’s funeral recently, which was a big deal. All the former presidents and their spouses were there, except for her.
Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton are confirmed to attend Trump’s inauguration, and George W. Bush and Laura Bush will be there too.
Interestingly, Michelle was the only spouse not at Carter’s funeral, where her husband and Trump were chatting like old pals, despite their political differences.
Michelle has been pretty vocal against Trump in the past, especially during his campaigns. In her memoir, she expressed her shock when Trump won and criticized his “birther” campaign questioning Barack Obama’s citizenship.
Last fall, she campaigned for Kamala Harris, urging men to vote for her and warning that women’s lives could be at risk if Trump returned to power.
All three former presidents and their wives attended Trump’s first inauguration back in 2017, including Hillary Clinton after her loss to Trump in 2016. Carter was also there.
